Sedona Hotel Yangon earned praise for successful hosting of the ASEAN – United Nations International Pledging Conference

12 Feb 2009

Sedona Hotel Yangon, Myanmar’s Leading Hotel earned praise for its successful hosting of the ASEAN - United Nations International Pledging Conference on Cyclone Nargis, 25 May 2008. The conference was attended by 300 government delegates from 51 countries and the international media.

Brigadier General Aye Myint Kyu, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Hotel and Tourism wrote in The Yangon Time Journal published on 20 November 2008, that Sedona Hotel Yangon was selected to stage the conference as it has successfully concluded similar UN and ASEAN minister level conferences in the past. With only 4 days to prepare, the hotel management and staff were still able to accommodate constant changes and the entire event ran with clockwork precision and without any mishap.  The ministry further endorsed Sedona Hotel Yangon status as Myanmar’s Leading Hotel, an accolade given by the prestigious World Travel Awards.

Sedona Hotel Yangon housed the biggest function room in Myanmar and earned a strong reputation for competent staff and excellent service. These assets allow the hotel to secure a majority of the major MICE events in Myanmar. The meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) industry is a rapidly expanding sector of tourism world-wide, especially in the Asia Pacific region. The Asia-Pacific is expected to attract over 100 million business travel and MICE visitors by 2015, up from 40 million in 2002.

While Myanmar has not been as focus as its ASEAN counterparts in attracting the lucrative MICE market, it provides an alternative MICE destination for companies who are open to new experiences.

World leaders and dignitaries have unreservedly chose Sedona Hotel Yangon as their preferred hotel and the hotel has shown that Myanmar is just as capable of holding major international conferences.
